Pinebush, NY Contractor Donates $2,000+ to Underprivileged Families at Christmas

ECISChristmas_2904“In wake of the Newtown, Connecticut shooting tragedy it pushed us from just thinking about a plan we had been discussing to give back to one or more families in our area to actually making it happen. “On the Sunday before Christmas we decorated our sweepers and loaded them with Christmas gifts and Christmas dinner, then ‘swept’ our way with Santa to deliver over $2,000 worth of presents to families in our area. Looking back, there’s no question that the recipients enjoyed a Christmas they otherwise would not have.” The above words are those of Jay Presutti, Vice-President of Pine Bush, NY-based, East Coast Industrial Services Inc. Jay and his wife, Laurie, who own the company, covered the entire cost of the event. Their employees donated their time for preparation and delivery. The success in what the response was by all concerned – from employees to management to grateful recipients – was so positive that the Presutti say they plan to make this an annual event. Pauline Liu, reporter for the local area paper the Times Herald-Record, was so touched that she posted the article at 2am on Christmas Eve day so readers could share in the feel-good story. In part, here is what Liu said. “When Freeann McManus looked out her window Sunday, she thought at first she might have won the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes. “With horns blaring, a caravan of vehicles led by two street sweepers from East Coast Industrial Services of Pine Bush rolled into McManus’ mobile home park in Bloomingburg. The company’s owners and employees came bearing gifts, including shiny new bicycles for McManus’ daughters, Arianna, 6, and Marlissa, 5.” “I never thought anything like this would happen,” said McManus, a single mother of two, who wept as Santa’s helper and his elves made the surprise delivery. PresuttiChristmas_2921The Presuttis said they reached out to the nearby Town of Crawford, which suggested two families in need of Christmas cheer. The Presuttis’  two sons got involved, as well. Neil, 16, took photos while Brian, 18, helped make the deliveries dressed in an elf costume. “I love it,” Brian Presutti said. “It’s great to see the kids smile.” Here’s a link for those who would like to read the entire article written by the newspaper. WSA’s Executive Director also recorded a 9-minute audio interview with Jay Presutti, who spelled out more details of how they organized and carried out the Christmas donation event. To listen to that podcast information, use the link shown at the bottom of this article. We took the photos the Presuttis sent us and made them into a YouTube slideshow, which is linked below. The slideshow is about 2 minutes in length and shows a number of images taken during the preparation and presentation of the presents the company provided. We hope this story spurs other sweeping contractors around the U.S. and elsewhere to get involved with giving back to their local communities.
