Detailed Profile: Ferrandino & Son, Inc.

Ferrandino & Son, Inc., headquartered in Farmingdale, NY, is a national facilities maintenance company offering services such as landscaping, snow removal, plumbing, electrical work, and general property maintenance. Established in 1993, the company serves a wide range of industries, including retail, healthcare, and commercial properties. Below is an evaluation of Ferrandino & Son based on business practices, payment reliability, reputation, contract fairness, and overall rating.

Business Practices

Pros:

  • Ferrandino & Son emphasizes technology-driven solutions to streamline operations. For example, their workflow integrates AI to automate administrative processes and reduce costs per service ticket.

  • The company provides a wide range of services under a single umbrella, which offers subcontractors access to diverse projects across multiple industries.

  • Vendor dispatches are handled in real time to minimize delays for priority service requests.

Cons:

  • Subcontractors report operational inefficiencies and poor communication from management. For example, contractors frequently cite disorganization and excessive demands for documentation and site checks, even when unnecessary.

  • Some subcontractors have noted that Ferrandino & Son’s onboarding process can be rushed and unclear.

Payment Reliability

Payment reliability is a significant concern for subcontractors working with Ferrandino & Son:

  • Subcontractors report delays in payments, with terms often changing unexpectedly. For instance, some contractors were initially promised 30-day payment terms but later informed payments would take 75 days.

  • The company has been involved in disputes over unpaid invoices. For example, subcontractors have reported waiting months for payments while incurring significant costs for materials and labor.

  • According to Levelset data, Ferrandino & Son has had issues with slow payments on 5% of their projects and has been involved in 46 lien filings across 25 states.

Subcontractors should carefully document all work performed and monitor payment timelines closely to avoid disputes.

Reputation

BBB Rating: Ferrandino & Son holds an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and has been accredited since 2018.
Employee Reviews: Feedback from employees is mixed:

  • Positive reviews highlight the opportunity to work on diverse projects and the hybrid work schedule.

  • Negative reviews describe high turnover rates, poor management practices, and lack of support for employees. Some employees also noted that vendors are often treated poorly.
Contractor Feedback: Subcontractors frequently cite issues with payment delays and excessive demands for documentation. Some describe the company as disorganized and unresponsive to concerns.

Contract Fairness

Strengths:

  • Contracts emphasize transparency through technology platforms that track work orders and compliance metrics.

  • The company’s structured service delivery model provides subcontractors with clear expectations for performance.

Potential Issues:

  • Subcontractors report that contracts often include stringent requirements for documentation (e.g., timestamped photos) that can lead to disputes if not followed precisely.

  • Payment terms are sometimes unclear or subject to change after contracts are signed, creating financial risks for subcontractors.

Overall Rating

Based on the available information:

Criteria Rating (1-5)

Contract Fairness 2.5
Overall Rating 2.5

Case Studies/Examples

  1. Payment Disputes: A contractor providing snow removal services reported being owed over $8,000 despite following all documentation requirements through Ferrandino & Son’s app. The contractor described the company as unresponsive and disorganized.

  2. Unclear Payment Terms: Another subcontractor noted that payment terms were changed from 30 days to 75 days after signing a contract. This created significant financial strain due to upfront costs for materials like salt during snow removal operations.

Recommendations for Contractors

To minimize risks when working with Ferrandino & Son:

  • Review Contracts Thoroughly: Pay close attention to payment terms and documentation requirements before signing.

  • Document Work Clearly: Ensure all required photos and timestamps are submitted accurately through their app.

  • Monitor Payment Processes: Track invoices closely and follow up proactively if payments are delayed beyond agreed-upon terms.

  • Evaluate Reputation Locally: Research feedback from other contractors in your area who have worked with Ferrandino & Son.

This analysis highlights the potential benefits—such as access to large-scale projects—and risks—such as payment delays—of partnering with Ferrandino & Son as a subcontractor.

UPDATED INFORMATION:

March 2025: Received another negative report that the company was slow to resistant to paying invoices. Contractor said they would no longer do business due to the many issues.

April 2016: Another WSA Member reported: We are also experiencing some difficulty with Ferrandino.  Dec and Jan invoices are still outstanding.  We are being told these payments will be expedited, however we have not been paid.  Now they are asking us to sign off on new requirements (mobile app check in and out).  Working with them has been terrible.
March 2016: A WSA Member sent this info for us to post here on the Ferrandino page: “Back in [the last months] of 2015 Ferrandino changed their invoicing system and, since that change, we haven’t been paid. I’ve been in contact with them a dozen times over the past two months and have gotten nowhere! We have suspended ALL work on their properties and sent them notice that ALL invoices were now being submitted to my attorney and our collection agency, still no reply. [Also,] no one will return my calls. I would HIGHLY recommend that anyone working for them who is dealing with the same issues I am stop at once.”

February 2015: West coast WSA Member reported that Ferrandino was becoming very late with payments (i.e., over 45 days). Also, when they called to threaten to quit sweeping unless they got paid, Ferrandino rep. told them if they did that their money would be withheld as a breach of contract (not providing notice). In recent months, Ferrandino had also docked them 5% discount for early payment even though payment wasn’t sent for over 30 days.

Additionally, the company rep had called with requests that they contact several of their store managers directly about large items that needed to be removed, even though that was actually in violation of the contract they’d signed. If this occurs, consider saying “no” until you get an amended contract that allows you to do so legally!

April 2014: Ferrandino rep told me we could not work for them unless we signed the part of their contract that prohibited contact for 24 months in the event they lost the contract. Actual work is to be done for JP Morgan Chase. The previous vendor, CBRE, supposedly had the JPMC contract only a month previously (and we had just paid over $300 to become certified to sweep for them) and then lost the account by the next month to Ferrendino! Anyone contractor who signs such a clause needs their head examined. Does JPMC know that if/when they fire Ferrendino they’ll lose their entire contractor corps?!

May 2013: These guys should be called “Shady Company.”  We were offered 5 Walgreen stores to sweep.  Agreed to our price.  However, when the contract came it contained unacceptable terms: 1)Required store mgr signature for every sweep. 2)Refused to pay invoices submitted after 30 days (no matter what the reason) 3)Prohibited contact with customer for 24 months after they lost the contract.
When I objected they said we would not have to live up to those terms.  I said great.  Sent them a one page amendment.  They ignored it so I told them NO!!  DON’T EVER SIGN SOMETHING UNLESS YOU AGREE WITH IT!!  JUST SAY NO!!

December 2013: A northeast WSA Member reported Ferrendino & Sons had lost the Stop-n-Shop account and didn’t even bother to notify them in a timely fashion prior to when his driver discovered another sweeping company doing the sweeping at one of their accounts. Questionable business practices to say the least…
