WSA Member Update 10.15.24

October 15, 2024

Dear WSA Members,

WSA has sent its liability-limiting Addendum to our WSA Advisory Board members for review and comment. We are still working on that document and hope to have it ready for our WSA members by the first of November. As I mentioned in our last WSA Update, we’re also working to set up a Zoomcast explanatory session with a business law attorney, who will discuss each of the items and explain their importance.

You may have heard that Covid-19 tests are, once again, being made available for free. Each household can order and receive four tests at no charge. Since early testing can be important for keeping your workplace safe, WSA is providing a one-page pdf handout with the details for you to print out and post on your bulletin board, break room, pass out at a safety meeting, etc. This is the link for downloading.

October is National Ergonomics Month

Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) are injuries of to the body’s musculoskeletal system. This includes but is not limited to tendons, ligaments, muscles, nerves, and discs. According to the CDC, work-related MSD’s are commonly caused by bodily reaction, overexertion, or repetitive motion.

To find solutions to repetitive motion injuries that have occurred in your organization, you will most likely benefit from checking out the National Science Center’s MSD Solutions Lab. The site has a host of information on the topic, including tips and sample policies for implementing a MSD prevention program for your workplace.

Using front and/or rear-facing cameras is becoming an important topic, which is why information on the topic was included in our last two WSA Updates. Here’s yet another way you can educate yourself about the advantages, with a free seminar from three ‘players’ in the industry. The live seminar was in late September. However, WSA signed up so we could later provide our members with a link to watch it on-demand at a time of your choosing. Use this link to watch the seminar anytime that works for you.

This month, our Safety First! post has more info centered around the change of seasons as well as three topic pages on ergonomic BMPs. October’s Safety First! message discusses the following:

• Deer Season
• Glare Hazard
• Trick-or-Treat
• Cooling Temps = Body Changes
• Defensive Positioning
• Ergonomics

As always, if you have questions or comments about this WSA Member Update, or anything else to do with the World Sweeping Association or power sweeping in general, please let me know.
