Kramers, who has been the CEO of 8 different companies, offered a wealth of information applicable to anyone who runs a business. During his presentation, the dynamic Kramers offered a number of proven techniques for improving business forecasting, sales and management. These were taken from what he calls his “CEO Tools.”
Although Kramers provided a comprehensive handout to seminar attendees, the good news is most of the materials are available at Kramer’s website, www.CEOTools.com.
One of Kramers’ basic points on the topic of communication with your management team is that you absolutely need to take time to learn about their personal lives, interests, families, etc. Why? The people who relate to each other on a personal, not just business, level, are much more likely to work better in running a business.
“It is much easier to build relationships with your direct report personnel by encouraging conversations about their personal lives,” says Kramers. “If you relate to people strictly on a business level, you won’t be able to build the same quality of relationship as when you’re in touch with their personal lives as well.”
What he suggests is an initial series of four, weekly meetings with your direct report personnel, each 20 minutes long and uninterruptable. During these, you encourage your employee to talk about nothing but personal topics, never business. During these you will learn much more about your employee, as well as have information that will help you relate to him/her much better concerning business matters.
In the following 2-minute audio snippet recorded during his NPE seminar, Kramers offers an overview of how to set up a personal meeting schedule with your direct report personnel, and why doing so is something that’s important to your business’ health.
