August 15, 2025 Dear Ranger, Note that I am sending this a couple days early since I am ‘out of pocket’ for a few days starting on the 13th of August. ![]() I ran across a site by Brightmine, a LexisNexis subsidiary, that offered employee handbook update info for 14 states. Here’s the link. If you don’t actually have an Employee Handbook, remember that the WSA website offers an article entitled “How to Create an Employee Handbook.” Our WSA site also offers a “Sample Employee Handbook Template” in Word. Want another source… these days you can ask an AI program like Perplexity or ChatGPT how to – or just to – develop one for you! Custom Guide just sent an interesting item entitled ‘management basics cheat sheet.’ Here it is in pdf format; it’s not a bad one-pager to review. There are times when you may be in foreign territory and need to find some type of transfer station. Here’s a link to a site where you can search for one in the area where you need one. Remember WSA’s Rating of Third Party Vendors!I recently received a couple inquiries about how ethical the tactics of some third party vendors were. Both members hadn’t recalled that we now have a rating of all of the vendors that are listed on the WSA website. Each company’s rating includes: • Pluses of working with themMinuses of working with them • Any vendor payment issues • BBB rating • Other complaints found from companies working with them • Collection issues uncovered • An overall rating Click here to access WSA’s list of third party vendors. They are listed on the page in alphabetical order. Then, to see the rating results of any particular company, click on their logo. BTW, the July/August WorldSweeper e-newsletter offers a number of articles about the recent microplastics test led by Roger Sutherland and myself. Although there were definite challenges, it also will definitely help establish new baseline numbers for how well street sweepers can do with small micron material, including nano- and micro-plastics. ![]() This month our Safety First! post focuses on heat and how to best cope with it throughout your work team’s different activities. August’s Safety First! message discusses the following: • Watch Out For Labor Day Changes! • The Heat Usually Breaks in Mid-August • Remember to Report Near Misses • Recognize: Better Health = More Safety • Accident Records Show Most Were Preventable • Intermediate Level Defensive Driving Reminders • Zero Incident Philosophy As always, if there are any specific topics you’d like covered, or if you have questions or comments about this WSA Member Update or anything else to do with the World Sweeping Association or power sweeping in general, please let me know. Good Sweeping, ![]() Ranger Kidwell-Ross, Executive Director World Sweeping Association |
